Precompiled Gtk-Gnutella
.deb packages for Ubuntu
Wireless Drivers (Microsoft MN-720 /
Linksys [Broadcom Chipset])
I havn't posted in some time, but I am activly working on the gtk-gnutella pre-compiled packages for many platforms. Not only Ubuntu and Debian, but also .rpm packages for Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, CentOS and others. I will keep them as up to date as I can and support as many platforms. I realize it may be easier to make a "one-package-installs-on-all" platforms with all the dependencies included and install to /opt/bin but I much prefer a native package using the latest gtk2 that's available at the time. It's just cleaner to not get outside of the distros native package management. Also I noticed older versions don't always install on the newer versions (Ubuntu Hardy's version will not work on later versions as gnutls13 is now gnutls26). I made the mistake of assuming so previously. Now all versions are compiled directly in the distro they support to avoid these mistakes. It's a little more work, but with virtualization the extra work is minimized. Future plans include repositories for Ubuntu and Debian distros, and a small storefront to sell off some of the extra computer equipment I have laying around. Also a quick re-write of some pages to get them w3c compliant as Frontpage made a mess of them from the start. I now use Kompozer (Previously Nvu)! Much better!

I added a scripting how to showing how using a simple python script wrapper you can stop the gnome-screensaver from popping up in applications where it is undesirable. Miro suffers from this bug even today! There's nothing more annoying than having to 'bump' the mouse every 10 minutes while watching a video. The Miro website acknowledges this bug, but for some reason recommends removing gnome-screensaver and installing xscreensaver. I don't recommend this, and propose the following work-around until they get their act together.

I am now offering precompiled .deb packages of the greatest Peer-2-Peer client software for Linux and Unix called Gtk-Gnutella. The builds in the Ubuntu repositories are outdated. If demand climbs I may start a repository on launchpad or possibly my own. For now I will just offer the downloads and keep up with them so you can get the greatest C coded gnutella client on the planet!

This website is really just a little project of mine and hasn't been updated in years, mostly out of my own laziness ;) I promise to bring some new content soon. I just need to think of things to add that are small (I'm bandwidth limited), relevent to things I enjoy doing (Linux, FOSS), are not found anywhere else on the web, and are helpful and 'static'. I learn/fake HTML programming as I go and don't want nor need dynamic content nor the security implications and complexity it may bring. I will try to shake the cobwebs out.
